What a privilege to be with you this past summer!I’m sure your greatest memories come from my
very impressive body building display.Yes, how could you ever forget my mountainous biceps? Or maybe you
consider my muscles to be more like tiny hills.
Speaking of hills, this past summer I traveled through an
area of stunning rolling hills in South Dakota. As I looked in awe at what God created, our theme verse came to mind. Do
you remember the words of Psalm 19?
"I lift up my eyes to the hills.Where does my help come from.My help comes from the Lord the maker of
heaven and earth. He will not let your
foot slip.He who watches over you will
not slumber.Indeed he who watches over
Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the
moon at night. The Lord will watch over
your life."
Life can bring all sorts of challenges—both good and
bad.Through it all never forget: the
God who created those hills in South Dakota is your helper. He will keep you from harm and he is watching
over your life. It’s my prayer that
throughout this school year, you’ll continue to think and talk about truths we
shared with you this past summer.
God is sure. He is not a shifting shadow. If you seek to
hear God's word and put it into practice, you won’t be blown away by the storms
of life.So invest your energy in what’s
important: memorizing scripture, having devotions, praying about everything,
and engaging in meaningful conversations with others. You can do this
anytime—in the car, while having breakfast, during a break between classes,
before bed, or at any other time that works for you and your family.Do these things and watch God work in your
life.
Oh yes, and don't forget to flex your muscles.See if you, like me, can hold a pencil
between your pectorals. It might even trigger some great memories of events of
our week at Cherith—the times with your cabin, the skills you learned, the
friendships you made, the counselor you admire, the whacky all-camp activity.
Remember . . . and give God thanks!He
gave us a great week and He has great plans for your life!Follow Him!
